Queensland · Rural · Off-grid

Keep the lights on.
No matter what.

Enough stored power to run your whole property for days on end. Storms roll through, the grid flickers, the bill never comes — and inside, nothing changes. The kettle boils. The freezer hums. Life just keeps going.

The feeling

What a better life actually feels like.

Not charts. Not kilowatt-hours. Just the ordinary moments that stop being a problem.

03:47 AM · Thursday

Grid drops. You don't notice until morning, when you read about it in the paper.

Blackout ↻
Summer · 41°C

Air-con runs all afternoon. The freezer out back stays full. No-one's rationing.

Peak load
Winter mornings

Hot shower, kettle on, heater by the window — all running off sun you stored three days ago.

Stored sun
Every quarter

The mailbox stops bringing bills. You almost miss the envelope. Almost.

$0 bill
Cyclone warning

The neighbours fire up the diesel. You top up the kettle and put a roast in.

What actually changes

Six things that get quietly better.

Not a feature list — what your week looks like six months after install.

01 · Freedom

The power bill stops being a thing you budget around.

Most owners wipe out their grid use entirely. A few keep a tiny connection — and send power back instead of buying it.

$0 to $40 per quarter
02 · Resilience

Storms become an inconvenience, not a crisis.

The bore keeps pumping. The cold room stays cold. The kids don't notice the grid went out for fourteen hours.

Days of whole-property backup
03 · Silence

The generator becomes a museum piece.

No more 2 AM diesel starts. No jerry-can runs to town. No noise at the back of the property.

Gen-set retired
04 · Capacity

The shed finally runs the welder.

Big peak loads — welders, pumps, cold rooms — just work. Plenty of headroom, built for a car's drivetrain.

High-peak output
05 · Legacy

You do something good with a retired EV pack.

A second useful life for something built to last. Kinder to the paddock and the landfill alike.

Circular, by design
06 · Sovereignty

Your block stops needing permission to run.

Off-grid, on-grid or somewhere in between — you choose how connected you want to be. The power is already under your roof.

Before / after

A Tuesday in July, two versions.

Same property. Same weather. Same family. One before a Better Life pack went on the wall, one after.

Before · On the grid

Life, but with the meter ticking.

  • Storm warning on the radio. You check the torch batteries.
  • Power cuts out at 8 PM. Freezer countdown begins.
  • Generator coughs awake. Neighbours hear it from the next ridge.
  • Quarterly bill arrives. You open it slowly.
  • In summer, you hesitate before running the air-con all day.
After · Better Life pack installed

Same Tuesday. You don't look up.

  • Storm warning on the radio. You hang the washing anyway.
  • Grid drops at 8 PM. Nothing happens inside the house.
  • Generator stays in the shed. Cobwebs win.
  • No bill arrives, because there's nothing to bill.
  • Air-con, welder, pump, kettle — all day, no flinching.
Better Life Batteries Mount Crosby workshop
Who it's for

Built for big blocks, long driveways and people who want out.

Three kinds of household we see on site, week in, week out.

Rural families

The storm-season household.

Acreage, kids, a freezer full of mince, and three hours from the nearest sparky after hours. You want the house to stay on, full stop.

Working properties

Farms, sheds and cold rooms.

Pumps, welders, pressure cleaners, cold storage. Loads that shrug off cheap batteries. You want headroom — and you want the diesel retired.

Off-grid dreamers

The clean-slate build.

No poles, no transformer, no quarterly envelope. Just a well-sized solar array and a battery bank big enough that you never have to think about it.

How it works

A retired EV pack, re-engineered for your wall.

EV packs are built to run a car at highway speed — vastly more capacity than any house needs. We rescue the good ones and sign them off for a second life.

01 — Source

Find the right pack.

We assess every candidate individually. Health, capacity, history, physical condition — everything on paper before it earns a spot.

02 — Engineer

Build the bridge.

Our own communication layer translates between the pack's original Battery Management System and your solar inverter. The factory safety stays intact.

03 — Sign off

Test and certify.

Full charge-discharge cycle, voltage checks, thermal review, and a written health report — signed off by a chartered engineer before it leaves the workshop.

04 — Install

Your electrician fits it.

We support your licensed installer on inverter compatibility and site sign-off. You monitor it in the same app as any other battery.

Built to be trusted

Big batteries sound intimidating. Ours aren't.

These aren't cobbled-together cells. They're whole factory packs — kept intact, kept under their original management system, and signed off by a chartered engineer. Safer, less complicated, and more boring than you'd think.

  • Original factory safety, intact. Cell balancing, temperature monitoring and voltage protection stay exactly as they left the production line.
  • Extra layer of safeguards on top. Emergency stop, auxiliary recovery, lightning and surge protection — added because Queensland has weather.
  • Chartered engineer, signed report. Full health and capacity report on every pack. No marketing spec sheets — actual measured numbers.
  • Fits the inverter you already have. Designed to work with the major hybrid inverter families — your licensed installer keeps doing what they do.
Stories

Queensland, one block at a time.

Honest words from the families, farms and off-grid households who took the leap.

Haven't fired the diesel gen once since it arrived. Bore pump, cold room, shed, house — everything just keeps running. Feels like cheating, honestly.

Grid dropped for sixteen hours after the last storm. House stayed warm, freezer stayed cold, kids didn't even notice. That's the feeling you pay for.

We run the whole forty-acre block off it. No more bills, no more generator noise, no more rationing when it's hot. Honest team, solid kit — it just works.

Honest answers

Questions worth answering straight.

Six things people actually ask us before committing.

Is this safe to put on the side of my house?
Yes — and that's the whole point of keeping the factory pack intact. The original management system runs cell balancing, thermal monitoring and voltage protection the same way it did inside a car. We add a lightning/surge layer, an emergency stop, and a written sign-off from a chartered engineer before anything leaves the workshop.
Will it work with my existing solar inverter?
Probably. We support the major hybrid inverter families that most Queensland homes already have. If yours isn't on the list, we'll tell you straight — no dragging you along.
How long can it run the house without sun?
Days, not hours — for an average household. The exact number depends on your loads, but a single pack is several times the capacity of a typical home battery. Most owners run the whole property for multiple days of overcast weather without thinking about it.
Do I need to be fully off-grid?
Not at all. About half our installs stay grid-connected — the battery just does the heavy lifting day-to-day. The other half run fully off-grid. We help you pick the right fit for your block.
Who installs it?
Your licensed electrician. We work alongside them on inverter configuration and sign-off. You deal with the local sparky you already trust; we make sure they have what they need.
What happens when the pack is eventually retired?
We take it back. A pack that spent a decade on your wall still has cells worth harvesting for other applications. Nothing we supply ends up in landfill on our watch.
